Performance Program Point Schedule
(Starts January 1st and Ends December 31st)
USASA standings will be updated monthly and published on the USASA website. They will also appear in the email newsletter, The Good Shepherd.
USASA standings are based solely on trial scores, placements, and dogs beaten as reported to USASA by the AKC. Results from previous calendar years are not considered in the current year standings.
Only results earned while at least one owner or co-owner was a USASA member in good standing at the time they were achieved are eligible for inclusion in the standings calculations. (Note: at least one owner/co-owner must renew their USASA membership before the end of the renewal grace period for results earned during the grace period to be eligible for standings consideration.)
A dog may appear in multiple year-end standings.
To be listed in the year-end standings and to receive year-end awards, a dog must receive qualifying scores in at least three trials over the course of the year. To be listed in the monthly updates only one qualifying score is required.
How to Calculate standings:
All scores are recorded. The top three scores are added together to determine the base score. Bonus points are earned as follows:

For High in Trial (Obedience and Herding): 10 points in addition to placement points

Herding and Agility
The top three scores are added and bonus points are earned using the above point schedule. All ties are broken by the number of dogs defeated.
Obedience and Rally
For individual class standings, the top three scores are added and bonus points are earned using the above point schedule. All ties are broken by the number of dogs defeated.
In addition to the standings from individual classes, USASA maintains standings in two categories that require qualifying scores in multiple classes. In Obedience, this is the “Blue and Gold” category, which requires a “double Q” in Open B and Utility B at the same trial. In Rally, this is the “Triple Qualifiers” category, which requires a “triple Q” in Advanced B, Excellent B and Master at the same trial.
The standings scores for “Blue and Gold” and “Triple Qualifiers” are calculated similarly to the individual class standings score, with these exceptions:
For Blue and Gold (Obedience): for the base score calculation, the eligible trial scores are the sum of the Open B and Utility B scores for trials where qualifying scores were earned in both classes, ie, a “double Q.” In the bonus score calculation, points are earned in both classes that were part of a double Q.
For Triple Qualifiers (Rally): for the base score calculation, the eligible trial scores are the sum of the Advanced B, Excellent B and Master scores for trials where qualifying scores were earned in all three classes, is, a triple Q. In the bonus score calculation, points are earned in all classes that were part of a triple Q.
Blue & Gold Award and Triple Qualifiers
Obedience: Only those qualifying scores earned by competing in both Utility B and Open B at the same trial will be used. The top three scores from the Open B and Utility B will be added and any applicable bonus points earned will be added.
Rally: Only those qualifying scores earned by competing in Advanced B, Excellent B and Master at the same trial will be used. The top three scores from Advanced B, Excellent B, and Master will be added and any applicable bonus points earned will be added.
